Alhaji Lawal Mohammed was born at Tsanyawa-Bichi Local Government Area, Kano State on April 20, 1948. He attended the Tsanyawa Junior Primary School between 1955 and 1958 and the Dambata Senior Primary School from 1959 to 1960. When he left the Provincial Secondary School in 1965, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Inspector-in-training at the Kaduna Police College in 1966. He abandoned the course after the Army take-over because of the instability in the country. In 1967 the Kano Local Education Department employed him as a temporary Teacher at Grarui Primary School. He later joined the Bank for the North Limited as a clerk at its branch office in Kano. In 1970 he was promoted as head of the Cur rent Accounts Department, a position he held until 1972 when he was promoted to the rank of a Supervision In 1973, he was appointed the first Manager of the Bank of the North Limited, Kano City Branch and transferred to the Ad vances Department as Advances Supervisor in 1974. He held this position until 1979 when he resigned for politics. With the creation of the Local Government Council in 1976, Honourable Mohammed was nominated as a Councillor without portfolio with the Bichi Local Government Council. He contributed immensely to the development of the area. Under the banner of the National Party of Nigeria he was elected into the Federal House of Representatives. He represents the Kunchi/ lsanyawa of Kano City. Before then he was the Constituency Secretary of the NPN in his Local Government Area. Apart from the holy pilgrimage to Mecca, Alhaji Mohammed has travelled to the Niger Republic and Chad. His hobbies are football and hockey. Alhaji Mohammed is married to Alishatu L. Mohammed and they have four children.
