OBE, MHA,CFR (WAMBAN DAURA) LATER EMIR OF DAURA, MINISTER OF ECONOMIC PLANNING. He was born in 1926 in Daura to the ruling house. He was the grandson of theformer Emir of Daura Malam AbdulRahman. AsaPrince, he startedhis education with Islamic lessons, then went toprimary schoolin 1936. He was in KatsinaMiddleSchoolin 1942;Kaduna College (Barewa) 1945 to 1947 beforeproceedings Kano SchoolforArabicStudies andto Middle Sixin Kaduna College. Hestartedhis careerasNA. Scribe in Daura between 1948 and 1949 beforegoing)or trainingin Zaria in the ClericalTrainingCollege. Hereturnedto DauraNA., thistime asAssistantChiefScribein 1950. AlhajiMuhammadu Basharstartedacareerinpolitics in 1951 when he stoodfor andwon election into the House of Assembly. He was also one of those sekaedfor the House of Representatives in Lagos as was then thepractice. Back in Daurain 1953, he wasappointed'Councillorin theNAwith the title of' Wambaifromwhere hebecametheDistriaHeadof Sandamu and in 1954 Distria Head of Baure. That sameyear, he went to the U.Kfor afour month course in Local Government. He returnedto became anAssistantDistria Officerin Ilorin though he hadtogo back to Kaduna in 1957where he servedas Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Local Government. Thefollowingyear, he returned to the U.K to do aone year course in the Devon Technical College which added anotherfeather to his capfor in 1959 on his return he became the ParliamentarySecretaryin theMinistry ofAnimalHealth andForestResources. Hisfirstfullministerialappointment was in 1960 in theMinistry of LocalGovernment Thefollowingyear, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, was on the Nigeria EconomicMission travelling to aboutfifty countries of the world especiallyAsian, European and Middle Eastern. Barely ayear after it was set up, the new Ministry of Economic Planning looking after MarketingBoards andtheNNDChadhim asMinistertill 1966when the coupforcedhim to retire. His dynamism and^eal earnedhim the trustof theSardauna who appointedhim headof thepoliticalteam to organise the 1961plebiscite onNorthern Cameroon. . . He was appointed the Emir of Daura in June, 1966 though he was suspendedfrom the throne in 1966 while an Investigation was conduaedinto the affairs of the MarketingBoards andNNDC. He wasfully reinstatedin 1968 andhas continued to uphold with high esteem the traditionalveneration of his royalheritage
