ANIKE, Prof Luke Okechukwu

Professor Anike, Okechukwu Luke, a Professor of Geology, an accomplished researcher, academician, administrator and visionary of great repute was born in Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria, on August 22nd, 1960. He holds B.Sc Geology (1982) from University of Benin, Nigeria; M.Sc (1987), and Ph.D in Economic Geology and Geochemistry (1999) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka Nigeria, and University of Southampton England respectively. He is a registered consultant Geologist (GEM-0182) (COMEG). Professionally, he is a Member Governing Council, Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society, Member, Institution of Mining and Metallurgy U.K, Member, American Association for Advancement of Science, Member, International Society for Geology Applied to Mineral Deposits, Member, New York Academy of Science, Member, Global Network for Environment and Technology U.K, Member, Nigeria Mining and Geosciences Society, Member, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and International Water Association (IWA). Professor Anike is a seasoned academic who is widely respected in his various areas of expertise and that has earned him several academic Honours and Awards. He has published so many articles in national and international journals. Some of the academic Honours and Awards include Commonwealth Scholarship Award (1995-1998), University of Southampton England; Best Postgraduate student Award (1987), Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Nigeria Nsukka; Federal Government of Nigeria Postgraduate Scholarship Award (1984-1986), University of Nigeria Nsukka; Best Student Award, Departmental Prize (Geology) 1981, University of Benin, Nigeria; Federal Government of Nigeria Merit Award (Full Scholarship) (1979-1982) University of Benin, Nigeria; and Igwe Edward Nnaji Community Development Scholarship (1979-1982). He has been proven to be a good academic administrator and has served in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria as Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (2010-2014), Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences (2008-2010), Head, Department of Geological Sciences (2005-2008), Acting Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (2007-2008), Sub Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (2004-2008), Sub Dean, Faculty of Natural Sciences (2002-2003). He served as a member of the Governing Council of the University. He also served as Chairman, Governing Board of National Veterinary Research Institute Vom (2005-2007); Director, Water Resources and Engineering Management 2000 to Date. An accomplished Researcher, Professor Anike has attracted funded research projects. They include: "Pilot Project on Standardization of Mapping Techniques in Nigerian Universities" (2007-2009), sponsored by Exxon Mobil unlimited; "Evaluation of heavy metal pollution of water sources in Uburu Area of Ebonyi State, Nigeria" (2008), sponsored by International Federation for Sciences, Geneva, and "Evaluation of Gully Erosion in Southeastern Nigeria using remote sensing" (2006-2008), sponsored by NASRDA Abuja. Institutions and organizations that have benefitted from the professional expertise of Professor Anike include Department of Geology, University of Nigeria Nsukka; National Iron Ore Mining Company; Supahaul (Nig.) Ltd; BP-Amocot/Geomechanics Unit University of Southampton, NERC/Mineral Deposits Research Group, Southampton Oceanography Centre UK; Special Project Unit, ASUTECH Awka; CIDA - sponsored international collaboration: Univ. Windsor (Canada), UNIPORT & UNIZIK; Special Project Unit, ASUTECH Awka; Shell Petroleum Development Company/Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka; and Shell Petroleum Development Company/University of Benin. Professor Anike is happily married and blessed with four children
