Litt by the University of Nigeria Nsukka. 1986 • Conferred a Chieftaincy title in his home town Eziowelle in recognition of his selfless services to humanity. (Ochuouwa 1 of Eziowellemeaning Peace Maker ofthe World). Achievements Cardinal Arinzehas madeenormous contributions to the developmentofthe Igbocountry. Nigeriaand the World at large.Hetookover theArchiepiscopal office ofthe Sec of Onitsha during the civil war in Nigeria 1967-1970. In that position, he made the Catholic Church a veritable instrument in the process of National Reconciliation. Rehabilitation and Reconstruction at the end ofthe war. During his tenure as the President ofNigerian Catholic Bishops' Conference. Cardinal Arinze encouraged dialogue and peaceful co-existence and religious understanding between Christians and Muslims not only in Nigeria but in the world. He ordained 96 deacons to the Catholic priesthood in the Muslim heartland of Kaduna as part ofthe process of achieving this mutual peaceful co-existence in the world. Francis Cardinal Arinze is one ofthe most senior living cardinals in the Vatican where he heads an important department in World Mission.
