Gocedan Gwimbe
was born on September 20th 1948 at Dungung, Ampang East,Pank shin Local Government Area. He attended Sudan Mission, Primary Sch ools at Lumpye and Kabwir between 1955 and 1961. In 1962, he gained admission into Government Secondary School Kuru, where he read and obtai- ned WASC and Higher School Certifi cates. He was a Headboy for two years. Between 1969 and 1972, he attended the Ahmadu Bello Univer sity Zaria, where he obtained both a B.A. (Hons.) Degree in English and a Graduate Certificate in Education. He also attended the University of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. between 1974 and 1975 where he was awarded a post graduate Diploma in Journalism Studies. He taught briefly at Government Craft School, Makurdi, from January to September, 1969. After hisgraduation in June 1972, he was employed as Information Officer (Press) in the then Ministry of Internal Affairs and Information of the former Benue- Plateau State. In 1974 he was deplo yed to the Government House as Press Secretary to the Military Governor of then Benue Plateau State. He became the first substantive Editor of the Nigeria Standard Newspaper between 1975 and 1978. As Editor, he was given an International Visitors Award by the United State Government, which enabled him to tour 12 States in the United States in 1976. He was also in 1978, Guest of the Novosty Press Agency, Moscow, during which he toured there Republics of the U.S.S.R. He was also a member of the Plateau State Fund RaisingCommittee for the Third All-African Games and subsequently a state delegate to the All-African Games in Algiers in 1978. Similarly, he was *a member of the Nigerian Head of State's entourage to the Gambia and Liberia in 1978. In 1978, he was redeployed from the Newspaper to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Information and acted as Chief Information Officer. He was also the Chairman of the Ministerial Com mittee for Appointment, Discipline and Promotions of the same Ministry. He was appointed to his present post of Commissioner in October, 1979. He is married.
