UMAR, Hon. Lawan

Born on May 1, 1951, Honourable Lawan Umar is one of the youngest members of the House of Representatives. He is a memoer of the Great Nigeria Peoples Party ana presents Geidam South, Borno State. He began his education at the Damasak Primary School, (1959-65). From there he gain ed admission into the Government Secondary School, Maiduguri (1966-1970). He was also at Thurrock Technical College, Woodview, Grays, U.K. from 1972 - 1974. Furthermore, he had a Diploma in Business Studies and is an Associate Member of the Institute of Traffic Administration. His career spanned as a Livestock Assis tant in the Veterinary Department, Maidu guri, an insurance representative of the Nigerian General Insurance Co. Ltd., to that of the Higher Executive Officer, (Accounts) in Sports Council (1976 - 1978), and the Direc tor/Chairman of Yobe (Nigeria) Limited from 1977 to 1979. He had three children by his first marriage in 1977 and one by his second marriage to Aishatu in 1977. A widely travelled man, Hon. Umar has visited the U.K., France, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, U.S.A., India, Japan, Canada, Tchad, and Ghana. His hobbies are horse-riding, garden ing, and travelling.
