EFFIONG, Hon. Martin Okon

was born at Uko Akpan Enwang in Oron, Cross River State on June 12, 1925. He is a christian. He schooled at St. Mary's Catholic School, Oron from 1931 to 1936; the Boys High School Oron in 1937 and the Henshaw Town School, Calabar in 1938 where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate the same year. He rained admission into St. Patrick's College, *U Ansa, Calabar in 1939 and obtained his indary Class Four Pass Certificate in 1942. He left for the school of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia-lbeku and obtained his Agricultural Assistant Certificate in 1959. He took a cor respondence course in G.C.E. (A level) from Wolsey Hall from 1965 to 1966, sat for the ex amination in 1966 and passed. Between April 1 and October 13, 1977 he rose from the rank of Agricultural Superintendent to that of Senior Agricultural Superintendent. He was in charge of the General Agricultural Divisional Extensions Services from April 1967 to December 1978. In between this period, he took charge of the State Fertilizer Promotion Programmes from January 1976 to October 1977. Honourable Effiong was once a teacher and an ex-serviceman of the second World War. He is married to Mrs. Nkoyo Okon Effiong and Attah Okon Effiong. They have five children. Honourable Effiong has visited Egypt, Israel, Ghana, and East Africa. He is interested in gardening. He won a seat in the House of Represen tatives as a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria representing Oron III Constituency in the Cross Rivers State.
