NWALA DR. EZE OGBUERE AJOKU

Dr. Eze 0. A. Nwala, a member of the Nigeria Peoples Party, represents the Ikwerre/Etche II Constituency, Rivers State, in the House of Representatives. He was born on the 5th August, 1937 at Egwi-Etche in the Rivers State. He is one of the five children of his parents Mr. Silas Ajoku Nwala, a farmer and Mrs. Agnes Nwugo Nwala, a housewife. He had his elementary education at St. Mathias School, Okomoko/Egwi/Umuanyagu from 1945 to 1952 and his secondary education at the Baptist High School, Port Harcourt form 1956 to 1960 before moving to the Holy Ghost College, Owern from 1961 to 1962 for his Higher School Certificate Studies. He then studied in four Universities namely, Fourah Bay College, Freetown, 1963 to 1967; University of Ottawa! Ottawa, Canada, 1967 to 1969; Ohio State University, Columbus, U.S.A. 19691971 and the University College, London in 1975. He holds a B.A. Honours Degree from Durham University, England, a Masters Degree from Ottawa University, Canada, a Ph.D., from the Ohio State University in Geography and a post graduate certificate in Development Plan ning at the University College, London. Dr. Nwala worked as an Assistant Professor of Geography, in Tennesse State University from 1971 to 1972 and also as an Associate Pro fessor of Urban Planning in Fisk University, Nashville, Tennesse, from 1972 - 1973. He was Principal Town Planning Officer, Rivers State and later held the post of Chief Town Planning Officer in the Town Planning Division of the Ministry of Lands and Survey, Rivers State, from 1975 to 1978. He has also served as a member of various Rivers State Government Committees such as the Committee on Human Environment the Chieftaincy Review Commit tee, the Port Harcourt Metropolitan Develop ment Authority and the Land Use and Alloca tion Committee. He has written various articles in scientific journals. Dr. Nwala is a member of several profes sional bodies such as the Association of American Geographers, the Nigerian Geographical Association, the International Geographical Union and the Regional Science Association. Socially, he also belongs to various clubs such as the Christian Council Pro ject and the Rotary International, Port Har court. Dr. Nwala takes part in community organisa tions, especially those involving the modernisa tion of traditional and neo-traditional set tlements. His major scientific publications focus on urban and socio-economic develop ment, housing, urban planning, highway transportation and environmental problems. Dr. Nwala has travelled extrensively to places such as Ghana, Senegal, Barbados, Canada, U.S.A., Britain, Lebanon, Sweden, Liberia, Gambia, Switzerland, France and Denmark. Dr. Nwala is married to Benedicta Onyemechi Nmeni and they1 have four children. His hobbies are farming, gardening, golfing and swimming.
