Chief Dr. Achike Udenwa wasborn in 1948 to a strong Christian parentage inAmaifeke. Orlu Local Government Areaof Imo State. He lost his father at a very tender age but his mother lived up to2000. He isthe only son ofthe parents but has a sister. Proved a very brilliant boy at the primary school and worked hard tojustify at the end of his primary school with a Distinction Certificate from the First School Leaving Certificate Examinations conducted by the former Eastern Nigerian Ministry of Education. Joined Pet. Marwick. Cassleton Elliott& Co to qualify as a CharteredAccountant. Audit Manager 1981 • Joined Monier Construction Company Nig. Ltd (MCC) in 1993 as the Financial Controller and later to the rank of General Manager Finance. Achike Udenwa and Political Traits • Natural gifts for Leadership and Political service. Democratic Party of Nigeria ( DPN) 1997/1998 and the present Peoples Democratic Party PDP • Joined Party Politics fully and won election as the Executive Governor of Imo State 1999- 2003 and was re-elected 2003 2007 Chief Udenwa as the Executive Governor of Imo State As a Financial Expert and manager. Governor Udenwa came out witha Mission called Redemption '98 Agenda The Redemption '98 has been transformed into the latestTripod Vision of Agriculture, Industrialization and Re-orientalion of ImoState which he saw as conduits lo highercivilization, development and emancipation for Imo People. Reversed the epileptic economic order of Imo State to a buoyant and private-sector driven economy Has brought enterprise, productivity, hard work, transparency and discipline to the business of governance. Introduced gradual revolution in the Imo psyche of political leadership and followership Entrenched the philosophy of Politics without Bitterness, a vast student ofthe great Political Leader, Late Aminu Kano who vvas a brilliant Political Philosopher and pragmatic Leader. A gradual process of re-orientation ofthe Imo People Has transformed Imo State from being a Land of Hope to the Eastern Heartland and where the Hope is transformed into Reality. Community Development has been deeply rooted in his philosophy right from childhood. The philosophy has propelled him to embark on Projects and voyages that ordinarily would not have been the priority of Government. Been a Bridge between Private-Sector and Financial/ Development Institutions as a strategy to institute a private sector driven economy in Imo State. • Considers public-driven economy as un-progressive. He isdefinitely a man who has contributed much to the growth of modern Imo State. lie is happily married to ChiefMrs Theresa Agbonma Udenwa. a fellow accountant and one time Head of Department of Banking and Finance, University of Science and Technology.
