He was born in Akwete in the Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State on January 18, 1962. Young Uzoma had his primary school education at St. Raphael School, Obehie (now known as Central School Obehie), between 1970 and 1974 before proceeding for his secondary education at Stella Maris College Port Harcourt, Rivers State between 1974 and 1979 where he obtained his West African School Certificate. Moving forward, he obtained his Higher School Certificate (A ‘levels) from the School of Basic Studies Port Harcourt, between 1980 and 1982.
Subsequently, he enrolled at the University Of Jos, between 1984 and 1988, bagging his Degree in Bachelor of Law. Thereafter he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos for his Barrister-at-Law (BL) Degree and subsequently was called to Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). In addition, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Law still at the University Of Jos, from 1990 to 1992. He is also a member of the Professional Body, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
Having equipped himself with professional knowledge, he moved into the working phase of life.
From 1990, Hon. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta has worked conscientiously in several establishments in different capacities. Some of these include - Social Justice Officer (Directorate of Mass Mobilization for Social and Economic Recovery); Associate Counsel (Chuks Muoma and Associates, Nnanyere Ugo Chamber); Councillor (Leader, Ukwa East Legislative Council Akwete); Member (Abia State Judicial Service Commission); Lecturer (Abia State University(College Of Legal Education); Senior Legislative Aide (National Assembly Service Commission);
Hon. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta has been into politics at various levels before being deservedly elevated to his present position as the Member representing Ukwa East / West Federal Constituency in the year 2007. He was unanimously re-elected in 2011 to consolidate on his positive and life impacting representation of his people.
