After national service at Government Teachers’ College, Jos, Plateau State, he was hired as a Staff Writer, The Guardian Newspapers in 1985
He rose to become assistant features editor before leaving in 1990 to join The Sunday Times as assistant editor.
For a brief period, Baiye was publications manager with the Africa Leadership Forum, Ota; and was a member of the editorial board with Punch newspapers. Between July and December 1999, he was an international fellow with the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio.
His fellowship allowed him to study the role of the press in a democracy and had internships with USA Today in suburban; the Virginian Pilot in Virginia and the Detroit Free Press in Michigan, as well as the Dayton Daily Newss.
He became Features Editor, Daily Times and went on to hold other positions with the Daily Times – including Member, Editorial Board; Editorial Page Editor, General Manager Publications; Director of Publications and succeeded the late Dr. Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo as managing director and CEO.
In the lead up to the privatization of the company in December 2004, Baiye led his management team to try and acquire the controlling interest of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He created MindSpring Communications as a special purpose vehicle for this bid. Chaired by General T.Y. Danjuma, the company lost the bid to the eventual winners.
Baiye retired from Daily Times in December 2004 and relocated to join his family in the United States where is he now works in the Information Technology industry.
