Chief Ashar Igungu was born in 1938 in Usar, Benue State. He is an indigene of Adikpo, Benue State. He represents Kwande East Benue Federal Constituency in the Constituent Assembly. Chief Igungu started his education at St. Ann's School, Adikpo 1947 -1955 before going to Teachers' Training College, Keffi, in 1956-1958 He also attended Advanced Teachers' College, Zaria, 1967-1970. In 1973, he gained ad mission to ABU, Zaria and graduated in 1976. He also attended the University of Jos bet ween 1979 and 1980 for post graduate studies. He is married with ten children and likes wat ching games and participating in philanthropic activities.
