MHC, CFR FIRST NORTHERN COMMISSIONER TO TFIE UNITED KINGDOM Alhaji Muhammadu Tukur was bom in 1920. He received hisprimary education at the Yelwa Elementary School, and later attended the Sokoto Middle Schooland the Kaduna College. He worked atthe Groundnut campaign officefrom 1945to1948. Alhaji Muhammadu Tukur later became a lecturer inHausa at the School of Oriental andAfrican Studies, London,from 1948to 1951. Hewas appointed Clerk of theNorthern House of Chiefs and became anAdministrative Officer in 1954. He was appointed thefirstCommissionerforthe then Northern Nigeria in the United Kingdom but before his departure he was seletted to succeedhis latefatherand was appointed the Emirof Yauri onJuly 14,1955. The Alhaji Muhammadu Tukur was a member of the then Northern House of Chiefs. He was in various government committees, among them were Public Accounts Committee, Hausa Language Board and the Gaskiya Board Alhaji Muhammadu Tukurwas also the Chairman of the Commission which drew up theguidelineforthe administration of the Northern Comeroun under the United Nations trusteeship. He was Chairman, Board of Direttors of the Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria (BCNN) now Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna from 1964-1966. Hewas upgraded to First Class Emirin 1971 andhe was until his death Pro-Chancellorand Chairman of the Council of the University of Port-Harcourt. He died on Friday 17*April, 1981.
