National Universities Commission Represented Eastern Houseof Assemblyin the Legislative Council of Nigeria Lagos Honours and Awards Hewas honoured for so many great and laudable services. HewasMember British Empire ( MBE) \u2022 Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR) \u2022 Awarded Queen&#8217;s Coronation Medal by Queen Elizabeth 11. 1953 IIon LLD , Doctor of Law, University of Ibadan. 1965 Today, the first Advanced Teachers College of Education in the whole former Eastern Region of Nigeriaat Owerri was named after Dr Alvan Ikoku. &#8211; thus the presentAlvan Ikoku College of Education was named after him in 1972 as a mark of appreciation and honour to Dr Alvan Ikoku who contributed much to thedevelopment of education inAfrica.Twoof his prominent sons, became Iconson theirown rights the LateS. G. Ikokuwasan economistand a prominent politician while the other son. ProfessorChimere Ikoku. was former Vice-Chancellorof the University of Nigeria Nsukka before he was killed by armed robbers after his retirement. Alvan Ikoku was a great ICON.
