He represents Isa Federal Constituency in the Assembly. After his primary education, he at tended Teachers&#8217; College where he obtained the Grade IITeachers&#8217; Certificate in 1970. He went to the College of Education between 1972-1975 for his N.C.E. and later attended Ahrnadu Bello University, Zaria for Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration. Mr. llyasu attended many short courses and has a certificate in management. He taught in both primary and secondary schools in his state before his appointment as Education Secretary, 1979-1989.
