He was born on February 22, 1953 in Owerri. He hails from Umuowa, Ngor-Okpala in Owerri, Imo State. He read Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he obtained MB. BS. in 1981. He became a fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health, London in 1983. Dr. Njoku is married with two children.
