He attended Kontagora Elementary School, (1937 to 1941) and Niger Middle School, Bida, (1941 to 1946). Alhaji Mashegu was awarded M.B.E. on January 1, 1962 and also appointed Shettima of Kontagora on the 1st of January, 1983. He has served Nigeria in various capacities from 1946 to 1986. He was a member, Constitution Review Committee (CRC).
