Sen. Dr. Nnamdi Eriobuna is a Medical Doctor (Physician) and a Politician.
\nHe hails from Ihembosi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra
\nState. He was born on 6 th November, 1948. Started his primary school
\neducation in Ihembosi continued at St. Peter Clavers Central School Nnewi.
\nHe obtained his West African School and Cambridge Higher School
\nCertificates from Okongwu Memorial Grammar School, Nnewi and St.
\nTeresa\u2019s College Nsukka respectively.
\nHe graduated with the Doctor of Medicine (M.D) Degree from State Medical
\nInstitute, Kalinin (TVER), Russia in 1978. He earned the qualification of
\nfellow international college of Angiology, New York, USA (F.i.c.a) in 1989.
\nOn returning to Nigeria after his graduation, he worked briefly as a Senior
\nHouse Officer in the Department of Medicine of the University of Nigeria
\nTeaching Hospital, Enugu in 1979. He later moved to become the Medical
\nDirector of Maimuna Allah Ya-Raya Hospital, Kano between 1981 and 1984.
\nAs the Proprietor\/Medical Director of St. George\u2019s Hospital and Maternity,
\nOnitsha (1984 \u2013 1999), he was compassionate to the patients and
\ndedicated to his duties. He later moved the hospital to the Nations Capital
\nCity, Abuja, and has been its Chief Medical Director since 2005. He is also
\nthe founder and chairman of Ugondech\u2019s International Limited, an outfit
\nwhich was incorporated in 1992.
\nSenator Eriobuna foray into politics dates back to 1989. A year later (1990)
\nhe was elected as the Treasurer of the Onitsha L.G.A chapter of the Liberal
\nConvention, which was then an unregistered political association.<\/p>\n
He was the gubernatorial candidate of the National Republican Convention
\n(NRC) for Anambra State in 1990 and a Presidential Aspirant of the same
\nparty under option A-4 in 1993.
\nRecently in 2014, he incorporated Divine Healthcare and Aid Foundation, a
\nnon-governmental organization for fighting infectious and communicable
\ndiseases in the country.
\nHis standing in the Nation\u2019s Political terrain indeed, reached climactic
\nheight in 1999, when he was elected as the Senator to represent Anambra
\nSouth Senatorial Zone on the platform of The People\u2019s Democratic Party.
\nAside from his leadership at various times of two of the most powerful
\nSenate Committees:
\n1) Senate Committee on Defence (Army, Airforce and Navy) and
\n2) Senate Committee on Power
\nHe was former vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Member
\nCommittee on Ethics and Privileges. He was a member of the National
\nHealth Insurance Scheme Consultative Committee in 2000 where he
\nrepresented the Senate.
\nSenator, Dr. Nnamdi Eriobuna was a member of the 2014 National
\nConference where he represented the Senators\u2019 Forum. He was appointed
\nthe chairman of the Health sub-committee of the committee on social
\nsector.
\nOn Wednesday the 27 th of January, 2016, he was sworn in as a member of
\nthe Governing Board of the National Issues Forum of Nigeria which is a
\npublic conversation project led by the Centre for Dialogue, Conversation
\nand Public Accountability in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Presently, he is a member of Anambra State\u2019s Elders\u2019 Advisory Council.
\nSen. Nnamdi Eriobuna used his political clout to benefit his people. He has
\nencouraged several young men and women to join the Nigerian Military.
\nAssisted several brilliant students from his constituency to secure
\nscholarship from the British Chevenin Scholarship Scheme.
\nHe belongs to several professional bodies including the Nigeria Medical
\nAssociation, The Guide of Medical Directors of Nigeria, Catholic Doctors
\nAssociation, Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, The
\nRoyal Life Saving Society of Nigeria and The Commonwealth. He is the
\nChartered President of the Onitsha Chapter of the Junior Chambers
\nInternational (JAYCEES) which is a non-governmental organization on
\nworldwide leadership development. In 2009, he was given Development in
\nNigeria Merit Award by PRS. He is a member of Ihembosi Progress
\nAssembly (IPA).
\nEriobuna holds four traditional Chieftaincy Titles including Onwa of
\nUmuohi, Ihembosi, Ifeneti of Ihembosi, Okaa Omee of Nanka and
\nUgodiebube.
\nHe won the Golden Jubilee Certificate of Honours in 2002, the year Queen
\nElizabeth II of England celebrated her Golden Jubilee on the throne.
