He was bom on March 17, 1949 and is from Shagari town, Sokoto. He attended M\/Rafi Junior Primary School, Sokoto, 1956\u201459; Farfaru Senior Primary School, Sokoto, 1960\u201461; Okesuna Municipal School, Lagos, 1962; St. George&#8217;s School, Falomo, Lagos, 1963; Barewa College, Zaria, 1964\u201466 and Government Technical Training School, Kano, 1967\u201469. He also at tended Filton Technical College, Bristol, UK, 1970\u201471 and the Nigerian Defence Academy, 1975. Capt. Shagari is a farmer and company director. He retired from the Nigerian Army in February 1984. He is married with three children.
