He had his primary and secondary schools at Bauchi and Borno states, respectively. After which he proceeded to University of Maiduguri for his degree where he graduated with B.A. (Honours), Linguistic in 1981.<br \/>\nHe started his academic career as Graduate Assistant at the University of Maiduguri in 1982 and rose to the rank of Assistant Lecturer between 1984 -1986, Lecturer II, 1990 -1994 Lecturer I and became a senior lecturer in 1994. He became an associate professor in 1998.<br \/>\nHe obtained his MA and Ph.D degrees in 1985 and 1990 respectively from the University of London. He rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages on 1st October 2006.<br \/>\nFrom University of Maiduguri he moved to University of Jos in 2013, where he worked and served as the Head of Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages Before he was appointed as the Vice Chancellor Federal University, Gashua in 2016.<br \/>\nProfessor Andrew Haruna, is a recipient of many awards of excellence both within and outside the country and also a member of professional associations such as, West African Linguistics Society, Linguistics Association of Nigeria and General Secretary, Linguistics Association of Nigeria.<br \/>\nHe has both Administrative and Academic experience in running tertiary institutions as he has worked in almost every area of the University system both within and outside the country<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"template":"","categories":[176],"writer":[],"class_list":["post-21101","biography","type-biography","status-publish","hentry","category-academia"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/biography\/21101","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/biography"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/biography"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/7"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/biography\/21101\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":25894,"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/biography\/21101\/revisions\/25894"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=21101"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=21101"},{"taxonomy":"writer","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blerf.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/writer?post=21101"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
