He attended Local Education Authority School, Odo-Ara, Ok\u2019Eri from 1968 to 1971 and was appointed the school time keeper while in Primary Five in 1970.  In 1972, he attended West Yagba Secondary Commercial College, Odo-Ere, Yagba West L.G.A., Kogi State but dropped out of school due to inability to fend for his education any longer.  He therefore left for Zaria to locate his elder step brother who eventually got him into Government Secondary School, Rano, Kano State in November, 1973.  He completed his secondary school education at Rano in 1976 during which time he was variously appointed as the Food Prefect, Yellow House Captain and the School Prefect-Librarian.<\/p>\n<p>A thoroughly home breed in the pursuit of knowledge and skills, Dr. Omoniyi obtained B.A. (Hons) English (1985), M.A. Literature in English (1989), PGDE (1996), M.Ed. English Education (2003), Certificate in Data Processing and Information Management System (2006), Ph.D. English Education (2008), M.P.A. (2009), all of which were awarded by the University of Ilorin.  He obtained M.L.S. Degree at the University of Ibadan in 1992.  His area of specialization is Applied Librarianship.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Omoniyi was awarded Certificate of Honours by the National Youth Service Corps, Plateau State, at the end of his service year in 1986.  He has published over 35 articles in reputable National and International journals and he has also contributed 8 chapters in books.<\/p>\n<p>At the level of working experience, Dr. Omoniyi ran through the ranks in the University of Ilorin Library as: Library Assistant \u2013 Circulation Section (1976 \u2013 1979), Senior Library Assistant \u2013 Circulation Section and Medical Library (1979-1982), Study Leave without pay (1982-1985), National Youth Service Corps (1985-1986), Assistant Library Officer \u2013 Circulation Section (1986-1991), Librarian II \u2013 Cataloguing Section (1992-1995), Librarian I \u2013 Cataloguing Section, Medical Library, Reference and Theses Sections (1995-2001), Senior Librarian \u2013 Acquisitions Section (2001 \u2013 2006), Readers\u2019 Services Librarian (2006-2007), Law Librarian (2009 \u2013 2010), Senior Lecturer \u2013 Sabbatical appointment at Umaru Musa Yar\u2019adua University, Katisina, Nigeria (2010 \u2013 2011) and was appointed as the University Librarian by the University of Ilorin on 12th October, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>He has at various times served on many boards and committees of the University and as a member of many academic, professional and social bodies inclusive of Library representative on the Faculty Boards of Arts, Education, Science and College of Health Sciences; member, Nigerian Library Association, Chartered Librarians of Nigeria and Treasurer, Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Ilorin Chapter.
