Mr. Christopher Chukwu Okaru was a local chieftain and rich farmer whose influence both in the Church and Community was firmly respected. Luke’s privileged background came from the father’s link with Catholic Missionaries. Luke was therefore registered in the local Roman Catholic School (St, Anthony’s) much earlier than his age mates and peers. His primary education ended brilliantly and he moved to another local Community High School in his area. – the Ohaji High School where hedistinguished himself as a bright and clever student. Interest in leaching made him attend Teacher Training College Azaraegbelu. Emekuku for professional teachers certificate. Later he got into the Imo State College ofAgriculture for IIigher National Diploma inAgronomy. For 18 years. Chief Chukwuspent a good time teaching and during those years, he touched and moulded the lives of many young people in Ohaji- Egbema Local Government Area. Public Service to the State \u2022 He rendered enviable public service to the State as a Teacher for 18 years of committed service in imparting knowledge and moulding character \u2022 Director, Secondary Education Management Board ( SEMB) 2000 2003 \u2022 Chairman. Transition Committee of Ohaji\/Egbema Local Government Council 2003 \u2022 Elected Executive Chairman of Ohaji\/Egbema Local Government Council 2004 lie won ihe following Prizes and Awards: \u2022 African Leadership Prize as the Best Performed Local Government Chairman in the Southeast Region, by the International Federation of Trades and Services 2003 \u2022 Crowned Icon of Hope by Police Officers Wives Association ( POWA) Imo Slate. Described as Most Youth-FriendlyChairman in Nigeria by African Youth Development Foundation (AFRYDEF) \u2022 Crowned the Ambassador of Niger Delta Youths at the First Niger Delta Youth Summit held in Calabar in 2004 \u2022 Ochiri Ozuo 1 of Ohaji\/Egbema His publications among others include: \u2022 Land Utilization in Large Scale Farming: Acaseof Ohaji\/Egbema Local Government Area, presented at the Imo SlateCouncil Developing And Sustaining othe Nigeria’s Democracy in the Southeast Region: Contributions of Ohaji\/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State. These two papers are yet to be published. Chief Luke is a Catholic and married to Lolo Nkechi Chukwu and their marriage is blessed with eight children. lis advice to the Youth is “be prepared to take over from us when we retire. 1know they cannot do well ifthey don ) acquire necessary skills.
