- On September 10, 2018, Hon. Sanwo-Olu joined the Lagos governorship race on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC). On October 3, 2018, Hon. Sanwo-Olu emerged winner of the APC Lagos gubernatorial primaries, defeating the incumbent Governor, Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode.
