elected into the state House of Assembly. Alhaji Garba Alfa Tarfa, Gongola State Commissioner for Justice, who comes from Garkida in Gombi Local Government Area was born on Decem ber 21,1937. He started his primary school education at C.B.M. School Garkida in 1946 and by 1947 he had transferred to Jimeta Elementary School. He fini shed from here in 1949 and January 1950 he was in Yola Middle School up to the end of the year. From 1951-56 he attended BarewaCollege, Zaria. Alhaji Garba Tarfa also attended a Diploma Course in Native Treasury at the Institute of Administration Zaria from 1957-58. He taught at the same % institution from 1959-1960 at the Department of Accountacy. He was a student at Gibson College of Law in England from 1962-64 and obtained the English Bar Certificate in February 1965 and the Nigerian Bar Certificate in October of the same year He also studied Islamic Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies London University. Alhaji Tarfa was a pupil state coun sel in 1965 and by 1967 he was with the former Northern States Marketing Board as Legal Advanser and later 1969 Secretary to the Board. By 1971 he was made a State counsel in the former North East. He also worked as a private legal practitioner before he was made a Chief Magistrate in the Gongola State judiciary. A devout Moslem, he is married to two wives, Hajiya Lara and Malama Asmau and has five children. His hobbies include reading maga zines and Law reports, playing indoor games.
