Between 1980 and 1983, he was the PresidentidlLiaison Officer in charge of Sokoto which hepivoted with excellent managerial skill. With the demise of the second republic, Muhammadu Maccido retiredto hisfarm untilhegotappointedin 1985 asmemberof the SokotoEmirateInnerCouncilup to 1988 when hisfathertheSultan, the religiousandtraditionalrulership sagepassedaway. InApril 1996he wasunanimouslysekaedout ofmanyprominentprincesto become the nineteenth Sultan of Sokoto, be custodian of caliphate heritagein WestAfricasouth of theSahara. AlhajiMuhammaduMaccido is apatron of many DevelopmentalAssociations alloverthe country. He is the founder of Gamji Memorial Club; he was also the chairman Sultan Abdulrahman College of Health Technology Gwadabawa, Sokoto State and now the President General of both the Nigerian Supreme Councilof IslamicAffairs and Jama'atu Nasril Islam. He is also the Chairman Sokoto State Council of Chiefs, member of the Nigeria vision 2010 committee,.andmemberJoint Committee of TraditionalRulers andLeaders of thought in the FederalRepublic of Nigeria. The FederalGovernment of Nigeria decoratedhim with the insignia of Member of the FederalRepublicMFR, OONand now CFR. For his determination topromote learning and moraltraining, Sultan Muhammadu Maccido is currently using hispersonal resources tofund acollege, an EducationalInsitute by name Sultan Muhammadu Maccido College of Islamic Sciences in Sokoto. He wasappointedChancellorof the University ofAbuja on T*July 2001 by Chief Olusegun Obqsanjo.
