Government. . During his ministership in the Local Government Ministry, considerable change in the Local Government organisation tookplace in the region. Throughout the period, the ordinary tax-payer took an increasingly important part in the affairs of his Native Authority. Increasing opportunities were given to common men to express their opinions in a constitutional way and where they can be heard There was an astonishing development carried out by the Native Authorities throughout the region; schools and staff, the Veterinary, Agriculture andForestry Departments continued to expand. Alhaji Abdullahi Maikano Dutse resigned his post in August, 1960 as Northern Minister for Local Governement to take up an appointment with the Kano Native Authority as Distria Head of Dutse. He was turbaned by the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Sir Muhammadu Sanusi at a colourful ceremony at the Emir's palace. He succeeded his father, Alhaji Sulaimanu, who died in]ulyof1960. He was turbaned as the first Emir of Dutse (upgraded) on 1st April, 1981 but was removed through political fait inOaober,1983. He died in August, 1987.
