SOKOTO MINISTER NATIVE AUTHORITY FINANCES Alhaji Aliyu Gumbi was bom at Gumbi, near Sokoto, the 15th of June, 1916. He attended Elementary and Middle Schools in Sokoto from 1927 to 1934 after which he was appointed scribe to the Sokoto Native Authority Central Office and promoted to the rank of Chief Scribe in 1930. He was District Head of Gumbi before he was appointed Magajin Garin Sokoto in 1950. He was elected as member of both House of Assembly and House of Representatives in Kaduna and Lagos respectively in 1952. Alhaji Aliyu was councilor for Sokoto Native Authority in charge of finance and social welfare between 1952 and 1962 and was provincial commissionerfor Kano in 1962-65, and from 1965-66 was Northern Regional Minister in charge of Native Authority Finances. Biographical overview

Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority, Sokoto State Water Board and Sokoto Urban Development Authority. Throughout the long period of Sultan Abubakar Ill's indisposition, Alhaji Aliyu Gumbi presided over the Sokoto Traditional Innver Councila job he did with distinction. The Magajin Gari was also the Chairman of the Sokoto State Zakkat Collection and Distribution Council until his death on Friday 13 th April, 1997.
