went to the Inns of Court School of Law London and finished in 1955. He was calkd to the English Bar in 1955 and returned to Nigeria 1956. He was straightway employed as Pupil Crown Counsel in the Northern Legal Department (Ministry of Justice) early 1956. He progressed to Crown Counsel and Senior Crown Counsel'serving in Kano andJos. In 1959, he returned to London for a six-month course still in Law. He served this Ministry till he was appointed the first indigenous Northern Minister of Justice in November 1961. He served in this capacity till the January 1966 coup which sacked the first ekaed government of Nigeria. After the second coup of July 1966, he opened his Chambers in Kaduna and Kano becoming the second Northerner to start a private practice in Law. Again, after the creation of States in 1967, he was appointed the North Central State's Commissionerfor Justice and Attorney General. He remained in this position tillyet another coup in 1975 after which he sent in his resignation ktter. That sameyear, Alhaji Mamman Nasir was named Justice of the Supreme Court and remained there till December 1976 when he was transferred to the newly created Federal Court of Appealbecoming one of the foundation members. He remained the defaao Deputy President of the Court of Appeal and assumed the full Presidency of the Court of Appeal after the death of the incumbent Justice Dan Ibekwe in March 1977. He held this exalted office till August 1992 when he finally retiredfrom office. But again, that was not the end of his public service for the Galadiman Katsina and Distria Head of Malumfashi (appointed in April 1992) was invited by the military government of General Sani Abacha to be the Vice Chairman of the 1994 Constitutional Conference. After that, Justice Mamman Nasir (rid) was appointed the Midwife of the government's transition programme and he steered the ship of affairs in that department until the death of the then Head of Government General Sani Abacha injune 1998. He was conferred with CON in 1965, G.C.O.N in 1992. He was conferred with the honorary dortorof ktters by the ABU, Zaria.He was Chairman, NSMB Assessment Committee, Chairman, Boundary Adjustment Commission in 1976, Chairman, Ministry of Defense Investigation Committee in 1985.
