As it was the practice with traditional rulers households, he started his education in an Islamic school where he wasgiven Arabic and Religious tuition between 1936 and 1942. He then enrolkdin thejalingo Ekmentary Schoolfrom 1943 to 1947. He also went to the Yola Middk Schoolfrom 1947 to 1949. That sameyear 1949, Malam Umar Abba Karim enrolkd in the Government Colkge, Zaria and was in the School till 1952. His pursuit offurther education took him to the Institute of Administration Zaria from where he passed out in 1954. Biographical overview

Scribe and Secretary to the Muri Native Authority. It was in the sameyear 1957 that he visited the United Kingdom. Ayear later in 1958, he retumedto the Institute of Administration Zaria to do a kcal government course. Again with his kvel of education his entry into politics was aforgone conclusion. He becameamember of the NPC and won an election into the Federal House of Representatives in 1959, beating both the Action Group andNEPU candidates. Alhaji Umar Abba Karim reached the pinnack of his political career with his appointment as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Mines and Power. He was later named Minister of State. He was turbanned the Emir of Muri on 12th August, 1966 by the Brigadier Hassan Usman Katsina government. He also served as Chairman of Council, Federal Polytechnic, Yola. During his reign, his emirate witnessed rapid development with the introduction of modem infrastructures and opportunities like Banks, Hospitals, Insurance Companies and Schools. The emir was however deposed in 1986 after a disagreement with the Military Government of the time. He died in 199 7.
