COMMISSIONER FOR TRADE, INDUSTRIES AND COOPERATIVES Chief (Mrs) Alice Mobolaji Osomo, 43, has the singular honour ofbeing the only female member of Ondo State's first civilian cabinet. Although her parents hails from febotu in Uaje-Ese-Odo Local Govern ment area of Ondo State, Mrs Osomo was bom at Igbobini in the same area on June 23, 1936, her parents fceirig Mr. Albert Gogo and Madam Sadia Gogo. In 1944, she began her primary sch ool education at Methodist School, Ijgbobini where she was until 1948.' The following year, she moved to Shagamu Girls' School now in Ogun State which had facilities for primary ^ and secondary modem school educa tion. After completing her course there is , 1952, she was one of the lucky girls who gained admission to the United Missionary College, Ibadan, which was highly competitive, being one of the few institutions in the country for training prospective female teachers. thrre years, passing out in 1955 after obtaining the Teachers Grade 11A Certificate. She immediately began a teaching career in 1956 and remained in thisprofession until 1960. Thereafter, Chief (Mrs) Osomo tra velled to the United Kingdom for fur ther studies and enrolled with the Council of Legal Education in London ^ for the three-year course for advocates in countries operating the common lawsystem. She later passed the Bar Examina- « tions and was called to the Bar, thus making her a Barrister-at-Law. Back in Nigeria, Chief (Mrs) Osomo enrolled at the Nigerian Law School in Lagos for the one-year special course intro duced to reinforce the prospective lawyer's grounding in Nigerian Law and was again admitted tothe Nigerian Bar in Lagos in 1968 after passing the requisite examination. From then and until her appoint- * ment as a commission, Chief (Mrs) Osomo engaged inprivate practice as a -0 solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She is married to Chief Adekunle Osomo and they have four children. Chief (Mrs) Osomo likes reading and gardening in leisure hours. Chief (Mrs) Osomo is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and has visited many countries in Africa, Europe and America.
