Biography Entry: EMIR OF DUTSE, MINISTER OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT The eldest son of the former Distria Head of Dutse Late Alhaji Sulaimanu, U.B.E. Alhaji Abdullahi was bom into the Musa dynasty of the Dutse ruling house in 1915 and was educated at Kano Middle School and Katsina Training College. He joined the services of Kano Native Authority in 1935 and rose from the position of Distria Scribe to that of Councillor of Health (Wafdlin Asibiti) in 1953 and Councilor of Forestry (Wdkilin Ddaji) in 1956. He was Vice-Chairman of Kano Outer Council, and member of Kano Town Council. He was once a member of Native AuthoritypressManagementCommittee and President Co-operative Thrift and Loan Society. Eleaed Member for Kano East Constituency into the Federal House of Representatives in December 1954. He was eleaed again in 1956 to the Northern House of Assembly where he was appointed parliamentary secretary to the Northern Region Premier. In September 1957 was confirmed as Northern Region/Ministerfor Local Government. . During his ministership in the Local Government Ministry, considerable change in the Local Government organisation tookplace in the region. Throughout the period, the ordinary tax-payer took an increasingly important part in the affairs of his Native Authority. Increasing opportunities were given to common men to express their opinions in a constitutional way and where they can be heard There was an astonishing development carried out by the Native Authorities throughout the region; schools and staff, the Veterinary, Agriculture andForestry Departments continued to expand. Alhaji Abdullahi Maikano Dutse resigned his post in August, 1960 as Northern Minister for Local Governement to take up an appointment with the Kano Native Authority as Distria Head of Dutse. He was turbaned by the late Emir of Kano Alhaji Sir Muhammadu Sanusi at a colourful ceremony at the Emir's palace. He succeeded his father, Alhaji Sulaimanu, who died in]ulyof1960. He was turbaned as the first Emir of Dutse (upgraded) on 1st April, 1981 but was removed through political fait inOaober,1983. He died in August, 1987.
