NORTHERN AND NIGERIAN COMMISSIONER IN THE UK Abdulmalik Atta was born in 1906in Okene into the Ebira royalty, the eldest son of theAttah Ibrahim. Atta Ibrahim was known to have the love of good educationfor his children. Abdulmalik went to Primary Schools in Okene and Bida and later trainedasa Teacherin thefamous Katsina Training College between 1929 and 1934. After graduation, he taught for ayear atthe OkeneNA. Central School. He then joined theNA., systemfully and rose to become Administrative Secretary inthe earlyfifties. In the political field, he joined the Northern Peoples Congress NPC and later became its First National Treasurer. He was also one of the Government nominated members to the Northern HouseofAssembly in 1952 and served in that position untilhis appointmentasthe First Northern Nigerian AgentGeneral'in the UKin August 1955. Fordoinghis job right and in an enviable manner, Alhaji Abdulmalik Attah started acing Commissioner for the Federation of Nigeria to the United Kingdom in October 1958 and was officially confirmed on theposition by the Governor General inJanuary 1959. Thus began a stretchof diplomatic servicefor this illustrious sonof Nigeria which lastedforfifteenyears. Mostof those years he served as Nigeria's High Commissioner in the United Kingdom. He however served briefly as Nigeria's Ambassador to France before his death in Okene on the 28th of August, 1969.
