Sir, Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, was the sonof IbrahimMaiRabah, grandsonof SultanAtiku, great-grandson of Sultan Bello, and great-great-grandson of thatfamous Islamic Scholar and reformer Shehu Usmanu Bin Fodiyo, theMujaddadi, the AmirulMuminin and founder of the Sokoto caliphate. According to official records the Sardauna was born in Rabah Town in old Sokoto Province in 1910 (some sources say 12June, 1909). From 1915 1917 he attended the Qur'anic schoolat home where he learnt the QurJan,Fikh andSunna of the Prophet (SAW) and between 1917 and 1926 he attended the Sokoto Middle School. From 1926 1931 he was at thefamous Katsina Training College, theprecursor to Barewa College. Upon return to Sokoto in1931, he was posted to teachat his "almamata", the Sokoto Middle School where he remained until 1934. In 1934, he switched to administration and was appointed District Headof Rabah. In 1938, he was conferred with the prestigious title of the Sardauna of Sokoto and deployed to Gusau with responsibilityfor the Eastern Division of Sokoto province comprising fourteen of the fourty-seven Districts in the province. In 1944, he returned to Sokoto as the Chief Secretary to the Sokoto Native Authority and Chief Adviser to the Sultan. In 1949, he made his debutin the political arena and was electeda memberof the Northern Regional House of Assembly. In quick succession, he was appointed a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee as one of the representatives of the North;a memberof the Northern Regional Development and Production Board; anda memberof the Northern Regional Loans Board. In 1951, hejoined the Northern Regional Government Executive Councilas Ministerof Works andina cabinet reshuffle in1953, be became theMinisterforLocal Governmentand Community Development and was designated the Leader of Government Business of the Northern Region. At the Nigerian Constitutional Conference held in London in1953, be was theLeaderof theNorthern delegation.
