His father was ahighly respeaed Qur'anic Malam in the courts of the Nobility. Even though history records that his admission into an elementary school was the direa influence of his father, his advancement in school was most definitely due to his personal ability and effort. As most children of Northern origin, Aliyu started his education in aQur'anic School in Bida before registering mthe Provincial Elementary School of the town. But unlike most children of that time Aliyu did not terminate his education at that level. He went to the everpopular Katsina College where he met majority of the co-Northerners who were later to be charged with the responsibility of not only shaping the political, economic and social fortunes of the North but leading the region as well to self government. He was taken into the Bida N.A.asa Councillor in chargeof Distria Administration and Education. What no doubt helpedyoung Aliyu up the ladder of his career were the timely courses he attended in the United Kingdom during the course of his working life. First in 1945, he was in the United Kingdom for the Local Government course; then later, he went back for the African Conference. Aliyu was in the United Kingdom again in 1952 this time for the UK Cambridge Conference on Education.
