Biography Entry: MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO He was born in Ilorin in 1914 to Mohammadu Laofe the late Distria Head of Lanwa and was nephew to Mallam Abdulkadirthe last Emir of Ilorin. Mallam Sulu Gambari was educated at the Ilorin Middle School. He started his carrier in 1937 when he was appointed by the Ilorin NA Assistant Court Registrar under Mallam Sani Okin (MHR). When Mallam Sani Okin became the Ilorin NA Treasurer in 1944, Mallam Sulu Gambari was promoted to the post of Ilorin Court Registrar. In 1956 he attendeda six-month legal course at the Institutes of Administration Zaria. He was named the new Emir of Ilorin in July 1959 after the death of the oldEmirAbdulkadiron 20th ofJune 1959. He actually became the Ninth Emirfrom the Alimi dynasty. He was conferred with the National Honourof the Commanderof the Federal Republic (CFR) and Honorary Doctor of Laws by the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1987. In 1982 he was made the Chancellorof the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He died in Berlin (West Germany) hospital on the 22ndof February 1992 after spending thirty threeyears on the throne.
