FOREMOST OPINION LEADER Alhaji Umaru Dikko was bom on the3f December 1936 in Kaduna. He attendedKaduna Ekmentay Schoolfrom 1946to 1948, ZariaMiddkSchool, 1948 to 1949, Barewa Colkge Zaria 1949to 1954, Nigerian Colkge ofArts, ScienceandTechnokgy Zaria 1954 1958 andthe University of London UK1959 to 1965. I^aswhikinUndonthatUmaruDikkodemonstratedhiskveandcommitmenttodemocraticpri teamedupwith otheryoungNorthemerstoform andnurture the Youth Wingof theNorthernPeopks Congress (NPC) which was the basisofhispoliticalbeknging. Back home, he workedas an ExecutiveAssistant in theNorthern Nigeria InvestmentCompany. Afterthe creation of statesin 1967,folkwing the Coup andcountercoup of 1966, he became one of thefirstcrops of civilCommissioners. He was appointedthe North CentralState CommissionerforFinancefrom 1967 to 1972 andInformationfrom 1972 to 1975. Afterastintin theprivate seaor, he was ekttedinto the ConstituentAssembly tojoin othereminentNigerians in ratifyinganewconstitutionforthe country. As afoundation member of the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) in 1979, and as an ExecutiveMember of tbe CentralWorkingCommittee of theParty, he wascentralto many vitaldecisionstaken in the interestof the wellbeingof theNation. HewastheMinisterof Transportwithin theperiod(1979-83). Umaru Dikko is a truly concerned Nigerian Democrat who believes politics should be devoid of unnecessay embellishment. Forhis views andprobably because he isaNortherner, he has been deliberately harassed, misunderstood, abused, wrongly accusedandpersecuted Earlier, he was amember of the London House Committee of the Northern CulturalSociety 1961-66, NationalExecutive Committee ofFESTAC, 1977andChairmanBoardof Direaorsof BCNN^1968 to 70. The lastpositions he handkdwith excelkntprofessionalism having workedin theBBCLondon in the sixties. Today, Alhaji Umaru Dikko isproud holder of honoray Doaorate Degrees of Law,from the Shaw UniversityRaleigh, North Carolina 1981 andof UttersfromMiks ColkgeAlabama USA.. 1981.
