CON, MP He was bom on Sunday January 4, 1912 and was brought up in the ways of the typical Northern aristocrat but with a stricter measure characteristic of responsible parents. He was never left to be spoilt, and that perhaps was responsible for his sense of responsibility which earned him so great an admiration from both his colleagues and the Nigerian public asa whole. He started school at the age of eleven in 1923 at what was then known as Katsina Provincial School. In 1927 he gained admission to the Katsina Training College where he trained as a teacher. In 1932 when he passed outfrom the college, he went into the teachingprofession at the Katsina Middle School. He was there until 1941 when he was appointed Hausa broadcaster in Ghana (then Gold Coast). He was in Ghanaforaboutfouryears when he was summoned to Katsina to become the Personal Assistant to the late Emir of Katsina Alhaji Sir Usman Nagogo in 1944. He was also made the Chief Scribe of Katsina Native Authority and held this post until he was awarded agovernment scholarship to study Public Administration in Exeter University College, UK; and as a resultof hardwork, he obtained his Diploma after studyingfortwoyears. He came back to assume apost which was then newly introduced in our local government system. He became the Development Secretary of the Katsina Native Authority and as the trail bl^er with the requisite educational qualification, did the job with diligence. He was in actual fact in the crop of the first Northerners to be so elected. It was as Minister of Education that Isa Kaita showed class as an astute decision maker nd taker especially as he was appointed to the position at a time when Northern Nigeria neededa sound educational policy for the upliftment of the region. Isa Kaita, and the Sardauna had to work closely on the development and implementation of educational policy for the regionthe thrust of which was provision of full pyramid of educational facilities, primary schools, teachers traininginstitute, secondary schools, postprimary vocational centres, post secondary trainingcentres, apolytechnic anda university. In 1951Alhaji Isa Kaita contested and won an election into theNorthern Houseof Assembly. He was selected by the Northern House of Assembly to represent the regyon in the federal Houseof "Representatives. In 1954 he was appointed the regfonalMinisterof works. He was made theMadawakiof Katsina in1956inappreciationof his services to theformerKatsina Provincial in particular and Nigeria asa whole. He was turbanedthe Wazirin Katsina by the LateEmirof Katsina,AlhajiSir Usman Nagogo. In1956he was made Ministerof NaturalResources andin 1957, Ministerof education. He was appointed Chairman designate to the North Central States Public Service Commissionin 1968. He was Chairman code ef amductforseveralyears.
