Alhaji Labaran Tanko, a member of the House of Reprsentatives was born in 1943 at Kano in Kano State. He was influenced early in life by Islamic religion and also by political activities going on then. He attended Gidan Makama Elementary School from 1955 to 1958. After his elementary school, he went to the Kano Middle School (City Senior) from 1959 to 1960, and in 1961, he was a pupil teacher at the Masalachiad Rimi Primary School. After his primary education, he went to the Advanced Teacher's College, Kano from 1962 to 1965and again to the same school in 1967 to 1968. Honourable Labaran Tanko obtained the following certificates in his educational career: First School Leaving Certificate and Grade II Teacher's Certificate. Alhaji L. Tanko served in the Ministry of Education as a pupil teacher from December 1960 to December 1961. After his Advanced Teacher's College period, he became Head master, Dantata Memorial School for 10 months from January to October, 1969. He resigned from the Ministry of Education and became the Sales Executive for Kano and North-Eastern State for Leventis Technical from October 1969 to 1972. .'*; After three years with Leventis Technical, he went back to the civilservice in Kano State as a clerical officer and rose to the rank of Informa tion Officer I. He married three wives —Hajiya Umuna L., Hajiya Rakiya L., Hajiya Hauwa L. Tanko. They all have nine children. Countries visited by Honourable Tanko in clude Niger, Dahomey and Saudi Arabia. His hobbies are reading, football, horse riding and farming. During his school days, he took party in all students affairs. He was the Secretary-General of the Kano Peoples Party/NEPU Alliance from 1965 to 1966 and he is at present the Publicity Secretary of the PRP, Kano State. -Honourable Tanko represents the Kano South/East Constituency in the House of Representatives.
