Alhaji Mohammed Xabiru Ummar was born in the Kaduna Capital territory of Kaduna State in 1942. His father, the late Mallam Umaru Loko, was a civil servant until his death in 1962. while his mother Mallama Hajiya Habintu Honourable Ummar had his early education at the Primary School in Kaduna from 1955 to 1958. He proceeded to the Government Secon dary School, Kachia where he studied from 1958 - 1960. From 1960 - 1961 he was employed at the Lugard Hall, Kaduna as a Gallery Clerk in the former Northern House of Assembly. He, however, left this job and gained admission to the Veterinary Training Centre, Mando Road, Kaduna where he studied later in 1961. During this period he went abroad to broaden his knowledge. He attended the Green Leaf Farm Training Centre, Beirut, Lebanon. On his return he was first employed inthe Ministry of Animal and Forest Resources in the former Northern Nigeria as an Assistant Veterinary Of ficer. Later he was employed as an Assistant Farm Manager at the Premier Farm, Bakura in Sokoto State. Honourable Ummar is a moslem, and has two wives. He married his first wife Hajiya Kulu Uwani Kabiru in July 1963 and the second, Hauwa Talatu Kabiru in May 1968 respectively. He has ten children whose ages range from two to ten years. Alhaji Ummar has travelled widely and visited the following countries: Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi-Arabia. His hobbies include football and travelling. He is a member of the National Party of Nigeria and represents Kaduna South in the House of Representatives. Umaru was a house wife. Late Mallam Umaru Loko had 18 children.
