SENATOR, PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER He was born in bis home town Ilorin in 1910. He did his Primary and Secondary education outside his home place. He was in St. John 'sAroloya School Tagosfor his primary education and remained in Tagosfor his secondary education in the heart of the city. On learning school Alhaji. Sanni Okin taught in various schools in Tagos before returning to Ilorin where he worked with the Native Administration. Hewasfirsta Classroom Teacher intheNA school before becominga Court Registrar. He was also the Ilorin Native Authority Treasurer, the Provincial Supervisor of Accounts and Stores and later Secretary Ilorin NA LocalGovernment. Alhaji Sanni Okin was such apowerfulpersonality that his word was central to various important decisions taken in the whole Ilorin Administrative Area. He wastheNA official that accompanied the then Emir of Ilorin to his 1952 United Kingdom visit. Hewas also oneof the Vice Presidentsof the Ilorin branchof his party. Asa strong and consistent memberof the party machinery, he was nominated to the Nigeria House of Senate in 1955. In1961 be also won election into theNorthern Houseof Assembly under the platformof theNPC representingllorin. Alhaji Sanni Okin is also rememberedfor taking leadership position in various voluntary activities. For example, he was Chairman Ilorin Branch of the British Council Group and Extramural Studies Group. Hewas also the Presidentof the African Clubs Ilorin and Chairman, Ilorin Scout Movement. To strengthen Provincial Administration the Sardaunan Sokoto in bis wisdom appointed men of integrity and sound administrative acumen to positions of authority. Alhaji Sanni Okin was one of such people as he was appointed Provincial Commissioner forKabba Province. He remaineda Provincial CommissionertillJanuary 1966 whena bandof military man from aparticular sectionof the country brutally sacked the government in the nameof military coup de 'tat. AlhajiSaniOkin died on the23rdof August, 1972.
