(CFR), MAKAMAN NUPE.SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION 1979-1983 He was born in Bida of the oldNigerprovince on 16thJanuary 1935. He went to school first in Bida South Ekmentary Schoolfrom 1943 to 1947 and then to Bida Middk Schoolin 1948. He moved outfrom Bida to Zaria Secondary Schoolfrom 1949-1954 and then to Nigerian Colkge of Science and Technology all in Zariafrom 1955- 1957. He thenproceeded to the University of Ibadanfrom 1957-1960. He leftNigerian shores to the USA where he attendedthe University ofMinnesotafrom 1962-1963. He startedhis careeras theAuditorin theNorth Regional Governmentin 1960 and became aSeniorAuditor in 1964. Hemoved to the Federal Civil Service as SeniorAssistant Secretaryfrom 1965-1967. Hemovedfrom that Ministry to become the Administrative Secretary of the Customs and Excisefrom 1967-1971. He waspromoted Deputy Permanent Secretary andposted to the FederalMinistry of Defencefrom 1971-1974. He become Permanent Secretary and wasposted to the Ministry of Health where he remained till 1978. He was seconded as Director of the Departmentof CustomsandExcise tillwhen he was appointedto the apexposition of the Secretary of the Government oftheFederation in 1980. He was honoured at home with theprestigious titk of Makaman Nupe. He retired in 1983 but returned to serve in different capacities at different times. He was Governor of the World Bank, Governor of the Opaque Special Fund, Board member of the NNPC, member Pan African Relief Organisation, Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Chairman, NationalPopulation Commission, Chairman, Lagos University TeachingHospitaland'University Colkge Hospital, Ibadan. In 1982ShehuMusa receivedthree honorsfordistinguishedandmeritorious service: Commanderof theFederal RepublicCFR, InternationalMercuryAwardandforeign honourof Merit of the FederalRepublicof Germany. He is currentlyasenior memberof IndependentNationalEkctoralCommission (INEC).
