MHC, KBE,CFR THE 47TH EMIR OF KATSINA NIGERIA'S FIRST MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO, This great sportsman was bom in his home Katsina in 1905 to the Emir of KatsinaAlhaji Mohammadu Dikko. Being aprince, he studied Arabic classics andtheQur'an and later attended the Old Katsina Provincial School. Early in life, Alhaji Usman Nagogo showed considerable promise of courage and determination. Hefirst came to public eye in 1929 when he became the Katsina Native Authority Police chief and nine years later in 1938, he was appointed the Magajin Gari Councillor-responsiblefor Katsina township. The Climax of his traditional career came in 1944 when he was named the new Sarkin Katsina Emirof Katsina. Alhaji Sir Usman, was the 47th Emir from the Habe down to the Fulani lineage in whatis today known as Katsina Emirate. He hailed from the Dikko ruling house and reigned for 37years. He was also the 10 th from the Dalla^awa ruling line. The time he succeeded his father Muhammadu Dikko in the year 1944, he was unique among Emirs young, sociable and an athletic horseman and polo player. Alhaji Sir Usman Nagogo was appointedNigeria's first Central Minister without portfolio in 1952 and later in 1956 a Regional Minister in the same category. Hewas given the Honorary Doctorof Taws Degree by the Universityoflfeon the 14thof October, 1972. When he died in 1981, he was still the Presidentof Nigerian Polo Club.
