MBE,OFR,MHA,MP DURBIN KATSINA, SARKIN MUSAWA, PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER Alhaji Usman was bornin 1901 in Musawaof the old Katsina province. He wasof the Katsina Royal Family. He had his education - Islamic and Western at home and in Katsina. Between 1916 and 1922, he wasa studentof the Katsina Provincial School. Hiseducationalpursuit took him to the UnitedKingdom in 1939fora three month course and in 1955fora two months British Council sponsored Course. Alhaji Usman was essentially anNA/Traditional Authority personality. From leaving school in 1922 to 1937 he was a staff of the Katsina NA Medical Department. His traditional authority career got a boost in 1939 when he was appointed District Head of Kaita. Heheld theposition till 1939 when he wasgiven the Distria Headshipof Musawa. Since in their time the government system allowed NA staff to participate in partypolitics, hefoundit expedient to bea member of the largest political grouping closest to him - the NPC. It was under the platformof theNPC that he won election unopposed into the House of Representatives between 1950 and 1953 and Northern HouseofAssemblyfrom 1953 to 1966. From 1954, he was the NPC Chief Whipin the legislature. Hispolitical career gota boost in March, 1964 when he was appointed Provincial Commissionerfor Kano. This followed a major cabinet reshuffle in theNorth and the desire tojuggle the majorpoliticalfigures in order to re-strengthen political administration. He remained in this position till 1966 when the government was brutally sacked by a bandof military men from a sectionof the country. After the coup he rejoined the Emirate Council of Katsina ashe had been turbaned the Durbin Katsinain 1965. He also became the Chairman, Dutsinma Area Council from 1972 - 75 and Kankia from 1975- 1976 when hefinally retired from service and became afull timefarmer. HediedonMarch17th, 1979.
