Hejoinedpoliticsunderthe umbrella of theNPCandwon election in Takum via Wukari in 1956 asmember, Northern House ofAssembly. In 1957he wasappointedParliamentarySecretary (DeputyMinister)Ministry of Trade andIndustry, latertransferredto Ministry of Health, (he was in the Health Ministry) when he was appointed Provincial Commissioner andposted to Zaria in 1962 and also served in Benue province as Commissioner. In 1965he was appointedAgent General, Northern Nigeria where he servedforOneyear. In 1966hewas appointedConsul- General, FederalRepublic of Germany andtransferredto Sierra -Leone in 1970 as High Commissioner upto 1975. Mr. Tanko Yusuf wasAmbassadorExtra-ordinary andPlenipotentiary to the PeoplesRepublicof China 1975 - iJy* ^T^J' DmocraticPeoPk ^Puhlic °f K°™ 1976 -1978 andAmbassador Socialist Republic of Vietnan ,r ; , ThsistosaJA^hass^or Tanko Yusuf representedNigeria in three countries between 1976-1978 this was definitely due to hisdiplomacy. On his return home, hejoined the NationalParty of Nigeria (NPN)from where he was appointedPresidential SpecialAssistantfrom 1980-1982when heretiredfromgovernmentservices. A true believer of Religion, he was Presidentandfounder, Northern ChristianAssociationsince 1963; Vicepresident, ChristianAssociation ofNigeria 1987- 1992;founder and registered Trustee of the Church of Christ in Nigeria, AmbassadorJolly Tanko Yusuf was Actine MinisterofHealthfortheNorthemNigeriainGeneva, WorldHealth Organisation 1962. His loveforpolitics took him to Democratic Party of Nigeria DPNin 1997 where he was astaunch member and was electedNational Chairman of A.D in. 1999 where he resignedfrom hisposition andpolitics towards the end of theyear. He died in hisKaduna home in 2000.
