AGBUMANU IV, MINISTER WITHOUT PORTFOLIO He was bornin1906in Wukari Division. He attended the Sudan United Mission School, Wukariand worked internally within the domain and in the traditional system. His closeness to his people and relevance to the system made the opportunityforhim to participate in thepoliticsof the day. Hewas subsequentlya Memberof the Houseof Representatives and the Regionalfoint Council. Before he was appointed Chief, The Aku Uka was the District Headof the North East Quadrantof Wukari District between 1942 and 1946. It was on 24 May 1946 that he succeeded to the throneof hisforefathers when he was made the Aku Ukaof Wukari. In 1947, he was madea Memberof the Northern Houseof Chiefs. Because of his political relevance, he was made Minister without portfolio in1952 making him one of the earliest Northerners to be recognised by the Colonial government. He was theretill1956 when he was re-appointed. TheAku Uka remained a Ministertillhisdeathin May 1960at the ageof Fifty-three.
