HONOURABLE BORNO STATE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION The Borno State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Stanley Dunama Balami was born in 1937 at Bwala in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State. He attended Garkida Primary School from 1949-51 and Garkida Middle School, 1952-53. Mr Balami then pro ceeded to Waka Teachers' College in 1955 where he obtained Grade HI Tea chers Certificafe in 1957. He later acquired his Grade II TeachersCertifi cate from Higher Teachers Training College,Wakain 1963. Between 1965 and 1968, he was at the Advanced Teachers College, Kano for his Nigerian Certificate of Educa tion (NCE), and later gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria in 1972 where he baggedBache lor of Arts Degree in History and Is lamic Studies in 1974. A member of the Students Discipli nary Committee of the ABU, Zaria be tween 1972 and 1973, Mr. Balami ad ministered various schools in Borno State. First, he served as Headmaster, Yimirshika Primary School, Biu from 1958-61 and again from 1964-65. He was Vice-Principal, Waka Secondary School, Uba (1975-78). Mr. Balami was transferred to Go vernment Secondary School Potiskum in January 1978 as Principal, and from August, 1979, he was at Government Secondary School, Nguru until Sep tember, 1979 after which he was ap pointed as Commissioner for Educa tion. His periodic political career is also worth nothing. Mr. Balami was Assis tant Local Branch Secretary of the then Northern People's Congress (NPC) in 1959; Secretary Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) Biu South in 1961; and most recent, an active member of the Great Nigeria Peoples Party (GNPP). Married with three daughters and five sons, Mr. Balami enjoys riding horse, hunting, reading and discussions on current issues
