DATOK, Mr. Polycarp Fian

was born in February 1928, at Panyam in Mangu Local Government Council. He started his education at Panyam Pri mary School, Panyam, from 1938-43, and obtained his Teachers' Grade U Certificate at Gindiri Teachers' College Gindiri in 1954; He later registered for Correspondence Courses with Wolsey Hall, Oxford in 1957 and subsequently passed both his Ordinaryand Advance level G.C.E. paper from the Institution. He also attended education officers course at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1564 to 1965. He holds two Diploma Certificates of the University of Ife and Royal Institute of Public Administration, London respectively. Between 1948 and 1963, he taught in a number of schools both as teacher and headteacher. These schools include the Panyam Primary School, Gindiri Girls Boarding School and the Gindiri Teachers' College. He also worked in 1960 as Simultaneous Interpreter/Translator of debates in both the Houses of Assembly and Chiefs of the former Northern Nigeria. In 1963, he was appointed Assistant Provincial Inspector of Education in the former Kano Province. After a spell he returned to the classroom as a teacher in the Government Secondary School, Birnin Kudu, Kano State. Bet ween 1968 to 1975, Mr. Datok wor ked as Divisional Officer in Lafia, Keffi, Wukari, Nasarawa and Katsina- Ala Divisions of the then Benue- Plateau State. He was also L.G.C. Secretary in Lafia. A seasoned Admini strator, Mr. Datok was Principal Assis tant Secretary in the Security and Executive Council of the former Benue-Plateau State. He also worked in the Ministries of Establishments and Service Matters, Agriculture, Health and Local Government both as Princi pal Assistant Secretary, Secretary and later Permanent Secretary. Until his present appointment in October, 1979 he was the Executive Secretary, Pla teau State Health Service Management Board. He is married with four child ren.
