Honorable Douye Diri hails from Sampou town in kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa state, Nigeria. He was born 4th of June, 1959 into the family of A.J.M. Diri of Kalama-Oweinari compound. He attended Okoro Primary school Sampou and sat for his First School Leaving Certificate Examinations in the year 1977, at the State School Kaiama (now the Reverend Proctor Memorial Primary school Kaiama – RPMPS). He went on to the Government Secondary School Odi (GSS Odi) where he was appointed Dining Hall Prefect and sat for his West African Senior School Certificate Examinations WAEC/GCE in 1981. He then proceeded to the College of Education (COE) in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state where he obtained his Nigerian Certificate in Education in the year 1985.
Due to his passion for learning and education, honorable Douye Diri gained admission into the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers state and obtained his Bachelors of Education degree in Political Science in 1990. Hon. Diri chose to practice the teaching profession and taught in several Government Schools in the Rural Area in the Old Rivers state and later resigned his position as a teacher to pursue a stable determined career in politics.
Hon. Diri was appointed the First National Organizing Secretary of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), the formost organization of the Ijaw Nation, also he was appointed Executive Secretary, Centre for Youth Development in Bayelsa state from 2000 to 2002 during the tenure of the First Executive Governor of Bayelsa state, Chief D.S.P. Alamieyeseigha. He was later appointed as Commissioner for Youth and Sports 2005/2006 during Dr. Goodluck Jonathans administration in Bayelsa state, now the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He became governing Council Board member university of Maiduguri from 2008-2012. He was Chairman PDP Disciplinary Council, Bayelsa State 2012. Hon Douye Diri was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House from August 2012 and a year later was appointed as Principal Executive Secretary, a position he held until he signed in 2014 to contest for the Federal House of Representatives to represent the the good people of kolokuma/Opokuma/Yenagoa Federal Constituency.
