was born at Garkawa in Shen dam Local Govern ment on November 8, 1936. He atten ded Primary Schools in Garkawa and Pankshin between 1946 to 1950. He then gained admission into Kuru Provincial Secondary School. Kuru, where he passed out in 1955. Kr. Gamde proceeded the following year to Gombe Teachers' College and obtained his Teachers' Grade11 Certifi cate in 1959: 1963 saw him at the Advanced Teacher*' College where he read and obtained his Nigerian Certi ficate of Education (NCE) in 1966. Between 1968 to .1972 he attended courses in Leeds University, U.K. and the University of Adlaide, South Australia. He obtained his B.Ed. (Hons.) Degree in English from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1977. Between 1960 to 1971, he taught in a number of colleges, they include Okene Teachers' College, Sokoto Teachers' College, Borno Teac hers' College and Keffi Teachers' College. He was latef appointed Inspector of Primary Education and Co-ordinator of UNESCO/UNICEF Education Improvement Project in the then Benue-Plateau State between 1973-74. He later became Principal Inspector of Teachers' Training until October 1978 when he was transferred to the Administrative line as Admini strative Officer. The following year, October 1979 he was appointed Civil Commissioner for Education under the Military regime. With the handover of Power to an elected Civilian Admini stration in October 1979, he was retained in the same post. Married with six children.
