GOFWEN, Mr. Samuel Shittu

was born on February 24, 1938. He started his elementary School at the S.U.M. School, Kabwir in 1944, he later went to S.U.M. middle school Gindiri in 1950 and later proceeded to the Boys Secondary School, Gindiri in 1953. After obtaining his West African Sch ool Certificate (WASC) in 1958, he went to Government College Keffi where he obtained his Higher School Certificate (H.S.C.) in 1960. He gained admission into Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where he read and graduated B.A. Hons (Administra tion) in 1965. Mr. Gofwen also atten ded a number of courses after his graduation. These courses include a one-year visiting fellowship at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford 1971-72 for a study in the Theory and Practice of Government. In 1974, he also atten ded a course in Management by Objec tives (M.O.B.) at the staff College of Nigeria, Lagos. This course was fol lowed up in 1978 by a Top Manage ment course at the Brooklings Insti tute, Washington D.C., U.S.A. After his University Education, Mr. Gofwen worked as Administrative Officer in the Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Education and Industries. In 1969 however, he was transferred from the Federal Civil Service as Principal Assistant Secretary, General Admini stration, Military Governor's Office. From 1974 until his present appoint ment, he was Permanent Secretary in various Ministries. They include, Esta blishments and Training, Internal Affairs and Information, Education, Health and Lands and Survey. He was also Chairman, Plateau State Opera tion Feed the Nation Board between 1976 and June 1977. He is married with five children (three daughters and two sons).
